Anatolia subduction zone initiation

The Anatolia subduction zone, originating around 104 Ma, reflects the western Neotethyan subduction system with oceanic lithospheres involved. Its remnant, Cyprus trench, highlights geological evidence of ophiolite obduction and subduction initiation. Reconstructions suggest a complex interaction between tectonic elements in the late Cretaceous, influencing current geological configurations in the region.
